HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are being slammed by several Native American groups after revealing they've given themselves "true native-American names" in an effort to embrace their spiritual ways.
On Wednesday, a rep for the reality couple told TMZ that Montag and Pratt had altered their identities to White Wolf and Running Bear, respectively. However, not everyone is embracing their new identities.
"Continued stereotyping such as this by people ignorant of our traditional ways is very disrespectful and only hurts our efforts to curtail these stereotypes," a rep from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota told TMZ.
"They have taken an inaccurate stereotypical approach to enhance their public image which is offensive to our diverse American Indian cultures," chimed in the National Indian Education Association. "We hope they are taking their 'self-improvement' journey seriously."
