HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — It appears as if Heidi Montag just might be getting the last laugh.
Despite facing wide criticism all over the Web when the video for her new single, "Higher," was released last week, Montag still managed to reach No. 7 on the iTunes Top 10 pop chart.
"Looks like all the haters are also buying it!" "The Hills" star tells Us Weekly in its latest issue.
While she managed a strong debut, the 21-year-old Montag says the negative buzz was still amazingly painful.
"I cried myself to sleep that first night after my video came out," Montag tells Us. "I just couldn't understand why people I didn't even know felt the need to be so cruel and hurtful toward me."
Thankfully, Montag says, she had her boyfriend Spencer Pratt by her side. Pratt directed the video and Montag says it came about in relatively easy fashion.
"We were at the beach and, literally, Spencer had his camera and a boom box in the trunk," Montag said of the October filming. "We did it in one take, maybe two, and it took us 20 minutes to film and cost us zero dollars.
"We had other ideas but we couldn't afford them."
