HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jack Nicklaus, the man Tiger Woods is chasing for most major tournament victories, says the scandal surrounding the golfer's alleged infidelity is "none of my business."
"Our public is pretty forgiving at times," the 69-year-old golf legend told the Associated Press Thursday at Palm Beach Gardens in Florida, where he was honoring The Benjamin School's boys' golf team that won the state championship. "Time usually heals all wounds. I think the hardest thing is obviously his family. That's a private matter for him and his family."
Woods, 33, has been under the microscope ever since a single-car accident outside his home on Nov. 27. The accident came shortly after the National Enquirer published a story alleging that the PGA star was having an affair with Uchitel, a New York nightclub manager.
Since the first affair allegation, several more women have stepped forward claiming to have engaged in sexual trysts with Woods, including former VH1 Tool Academy contestant Jaimee Grubbs.
Last week, Woods admitted to "transgressions," but did not elaborate in a statement released on his Web site. Nicklaus, whose 18 major championships are four more than the second-place Woods, said he's confident the embattled golfer will bounce back strongly.
"He's a great athlete," Nicklaus said. "He'll figure it out."
