NEW ORLEANS — Janet Jackson is headed for The Big Easy.
The 43-year-old entertainer will perform at this summer's Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, organizers announced Tuesday.
Jackson will make her first-ever appearance at the annual event when she performs on July 2, the festival's opening night. It will be the superstar's first full performance since her 2008 concert at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Jackson joins a bill that includes fellow headliners Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys.
"This year's Essence Music Festival line-up is headed up by three of the most talented and powerful women in music today," said Michelle Ebanks, president, Essence Communications Inc. "With the return of both Mary J. Blige and Alicia Keys, and the first-ever performance from Janet Jackson, I can't think of a better way to celebrate Essence's 40th anniversary."
Other artists lined up to appear at July 2-4 festival include Arrested Development, Estelle, LL Cool J, Mary Mary, Monica, Ruben Studdard, Trey Songz and WAR.
Jackson will appear this weekend on the big screen in Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too?, which also features her theme song, "Nothing."
