HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jennifer Aniston doesn't plan to run away from the tabloid whispers that she's leading a lonely life as a now 40-year-old single woman.
"I'm not going to ignore the pink elephant in the living room," the actress reveals in the September issue of Elle. "It's fine. I can take it. If I'm the emblem for 'this is what it looks like to be the lonely girl getting on with her life,' so be it."
Aniston has endured a string of failed relationships after her 2005 divorce from Brad Pitt. Among her recent dates have been actor Vince Vaughn, singer John Mayer and model Paul Sculfor. While her post-divorce run has left the tabloids feeling sorry for her, Aniston says she has no problem being the poster child for others with broken hearts.
"I support women, men, anybody who is in a place that's not their strongest and who is ready to push forward," she says.
"I can make fun of myself. And I'll bring it up as long as the world is bringing it up," adds Aniston.
The former "Friends" star attributes her comedic chops to her parents.
"They would make each other laugh like nobody’s business," she tells the mag. "So I put a lot of value in that at a very young age."
Aniston also praises her mother for teaching her to always speak the truth.
"I remember being 7 and asking my mom if I was as pretty as [my best friend] Monique," she explains. "And with all the love in the world, my mom looked at me and said, 'Oh, honey, you're so funny.'
"So, she doesn't lie to me ... She answers the question by not answering and instead tells me what she thinks is my greatest strength."
