HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Long before she was a successful Hollywood actress, Jennifer Esposito paid the bills working as an exercise instructor in Manhattan.
While she has since found fame, the "Samantha Who?" star hasn't forgotten her roots. In the April issue of Shape magazine, Esposito dishes out a few of her fitness secrets, while also paying respect to her biggest supporter — mom.
"When I was 6, I told my mom I wanted to be an actress, live in New York City, and have two dogs," the 34-year-old actress tells Shape.
Esposito's mom, who was married and pregnant at 18, responded by giving her daughter the support she needed to hear.
"She told me, 'You go girl! You can do whatever you set your mind to. Don't settle, and don't depend on anyone but yourself,' " the Brooklyn native says.
Esposito says her mom remains her biggest fan, despite still needing to get a crash course on Hollywood 101.
"She called me recently and said, 'You're going to win an Oscar for Samantha Who?" laughs Esposito. "I had to tell her you don't win Oscars for TV roles."
