HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — It looks like Jennifer Lopez has been scratched from the list of potential judges taking over on American Idol.
A source tells People magazine that talks between Lopez and Fox have ended after the two sides were unable to strike a deal.
"Her demands got out of hand," the insider told the mag. "Fox had just had enough."
Lopez was linked to the job immediately after Ellen DeGeneres bowed out two weeks ago. At the time, the hit series was already dealing with the loss of Simon Cowell, who is leaving the program to focus on bringing his U.K. hit The X Factor to the U.S. next year.
There was widespread speculation that Kara DioGuardi would be fired and the show would return to a three-judge format with Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler coming on board to join holdover Randy Jackson.
With Lopez seemingly out of the picture, the focus may return to past celebrity names linked to the talent competition, including Chris Isaak, Harry Connick, Jr. and Bret Michaels. There could also be another diva in the mix, Maria Carey, who has a history with the show.
"She says, 'I would love to do that.' She is one of the greatest singers of our time; she would be great," her husband, Nick Cannon, recently told The Hollywood Reporter. "I don't know if she has enough time, though, but if they could work with her schedule, I know she would love to do Idol. Let's start the campaign!"
