HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jerry Seinfeld escaped serious injury last Saturday when his vintage car flipped over in the Hamptons.
The 53-year-old comedian was driving alone when the brakes on his 1967 Fiat BTM went out, the New York Post reports.
Seinfeld initially tried to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle and avoid a collision as he neared an intersection. But when that failed, he swerved to avoid the oncoming traffic, resulting in the vehicle rolling over and coming to a stop just yards from the highway.
Amazingly, Seinfeld managed to walk away from the accident "without a scratch," his wife Jessica said.
"He was a little shocked when he walked in and it started to dawn on him what happened," his wife, Jessica, told the Post. "It could have been a lot worse, obviously, and thank God it wasn't. He's fine."
In true comic fashion, Seinfeld is doing his best to make light of the accident.
"Because I know there are kids out there, I want to make sure they all know that driving without braking is not something I recommend, unless you have professional clown training or a comedy background, as I do," he told the newspaper. "It is not something I plan to make a habit."
