JUPITER, Fla. — Olivia Namath, the 19-year-old daughter of Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath, was arrested on drug charges early Sunday in Florida, the Palm Beach Post reports.
Namath was pulled over around 12:48 a.m. after police noticed her speeding in a silver Mercedes, according to a police report obtained by the paper. During the traffic stop, an officer smelled marijuana and ordered Namath and her two male passengers out of the car. The resulting inspection turned up a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana in the car's floor board.
After the initial find, police conducted a search of the trunk, where they discovered an additional 200.5 grams of marijuana in baggies. They also found a bottle of Captain Morgan rum and beer.
Namath, who "denied any knowledge" of the marijuana, was charged with two counts of marijuana possession, including one with intent to sell. She also faces charges of possession of alcohol by a minor.
The ex football star was inducted into the NFL's Hall of Fame in 1985 after a storied career with the New York Jets. He made headlines in 2003 when he told ESPN reporter Suzy Kolber that he wanted to "kiss" her during a live interview. The man known as Broadway Joe later apologized and said he was checking into rehab for an alcohol problem.
