HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jon Gosselin has filed a $5 million countersuit against TLC, accusing the network of damaging his career and reputation.
In the suit, the reality star claims the network reached out to various media outlets and advised them not to speak with him, according to court documents obtained by Radar Online. He also contends that TLC owes him $175,000 based on the terms of a contract dated April 28, 2008, in which he was due $22,500 for each half-hour episode and $45,000 for each one-hour episode.
The countersuit is in response to TLC's breach of contract lawsuit filed last month against Gosselin. A hearing on that suit is scheduled for Dec. 14.
Gosselin, 32, makes several notable accusations in the affidavit obtained by Radar, including one in which he declares that fame has come at a price.
"Now, I find myself unemployed and without the ability to secure non-entertainment related engagements because the enormous Media interest, cameras, reporters and public interest makes it impossible to carry on normal daily activities, let alone find, secure and maintain a job with an employer who is willing to be exposed to the daily Media intrusions that has impeded by life," he states.
Gosselin also claims TLC likes his estranged wife Kate more than him and accuses the network of staging scenes for Jon & Kate Plus 8.
The counterclaim was filed in District Court in Rockville, Md., where TLC's parent company, Discovery Communications, is based.
