HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — When director Julian Schnabel's 21-year-old son was captured hitting the town with 44-year-old supermodel Elle MacPherson, the tabloids went crazy with juicy relationship rumors. But the man behind "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" says the age difference is no skin off his back.
"They're hanging out," dad revealed to Us Weekly magazine at Sunday's Oscars. It's not like he's smuggling heroin across the border! It's not a big deal."
Art curator Vito first made headlines with Macpherson last month, thanks to the London paparazzi, who captured the unlikely couple together as they chatted inside the model's luxury car.
Macpherson is divorced from Gilles Bensimon, whom she married in 1985. She also has two children from her previous relationship with longtime boyfriend Arpad Busson, a wealthy Swiss/French financier.
The Australian beauty has denied there is any romance happening with her young art pal, telling Access Hollywood, "I never talk about my personal life, but in this particular case, because he is nearly underage, I have to deny it because there is nothing else to do except deny it."
