HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Julianne Hough is hanging up her "dancing" shoes — at least for now.
The 20-year-old Hough, a two-time winner of the mirror ball trophy on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," has announced that she won't return for the hit reality show's eight season.
"I won't be on 'Dancing' this spring season. I don't know about the fall. Maybe, maybe not. We'll see," Hough revealed in her Fancast blog Thursday.
Hough's announcement comes two days after she and her partner, "Hannah Montana" star Cody Linley, were voted off the the current season. The Utah native has been openly critical of Tuesday night's decision.
"I don't know what the judges were watching or thinking," she blogged. "I don't know what they had a problem with.
"I think they simply had it in for Cody and didn’t want him to make the finals. I thought he did a great job. I went and watched the dances again and he was awesome. I thought he should have had much better scores and better comments."
Hough, who released her self-titled debut album in May, said she's quitting the show to benefit her music career.
"I'm definitely going to focus on the music," wrote Hough, who also dropped a holiday collection last month. "My first album was a learning experience, and I can't wait for the next one. I feel like the writing and producing will be even better, really awesome."
As for who she thinks will walk away with this year's mirror ball trophy, Hough says she's pulling for her brother Derek and his dancing partner Brooke Burke.
"I think they deserve to win," she wrote. "From day one, they've been awesome. I think Brooke is the most technically sound of the celebrities and she's a beautiful dancer."
