HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Julianne Hough will undergo surgery today to have her appendix removed, the two-time "Dancing With the Stars" champion announced on her Web site Monday.
The 20-year-old dancing pro said she was diagnosed with endometriosis, a common condition in which tissue from the uterus lining grows outside the uterus, causing painful cysts and possible infertility. The growths can appear on the surfaces of organs in the pelvis or abdomen. It is a condition found in 5 to 10 percent of women.
"After consulting with her doctor, this course of treatment was recommended," read the statement on her Web site.
Hough first went to the hospital last week after experiencing abdominal pains.
The Utah native appeared on Monday night's "Dancing With the Stars," where she assured everyone that "everything's okay."
"I'm going to hopefully be back, if everything goes as planned, next week," she said.
Edyta Sliwinska will team with Cody Linley on the hit ABC show while Hough is sidelined.
