HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kate Hudson will star in the upcoming screen adaption of the Broadway musical "Nine," according to the New York Post.
The 29-year-old actress joins an all-star cast, which includes Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren and Judi Dench.
The story revolves around a film director named Guido Contini, who struggles to find harmony in both his professional and personal lives, while engaging in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and his mother.
It is based on an Italian play by Mario Fratti, which was inspired by Federico Fellini's autobiographical film "8½." The original Broadway production opened in 1982 and starred Raúl Juliá.
Hudson, who will portray Stephanie, a fashion magazine reporter on assignment in Italy, reportedly beat out Sienna Miller and Anne Hathaway for the part. According to the Post, a new song, "Cinema Italiano," was added specifically for Hudson's role.
Shooting on the film, which will be directed by Rob Marshall, is slated to begin in the fall.
