HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Katherine Heigl will not be a repeat winner at this year's Emmy Awards.
The 29-year-old "Grey's Anatomy" star, who won Best Actress at last year's Emmy ceremony, has withdrawn her name from the 2008 nominees list, citing the show's scripts.
"I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention," she told the Los Angeles Times.
Heigl said she didn't want to potentially steal the spotlight from a more deserving actress, but her comments would appear to be a wake-up call to the show's producers, who have seen a steady ratings decline this season.
"I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials," Heigl added.
