HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kevin Federline says his post-marital struggles with Britney Spears are the same as the rest of the world, only people love to see the fall of a celebrity.
"Even though everything is so publicized and everybody is looking at it, it's normal for us," he tells Interview magazine in its February issue.
"People put it up on this pedestal when it's really the same way that everybody else goes through their stuff, you know? It's not really any different.
"I mean, I could sit down and explain that to people, but they all already know how I feel," he added. "I think the infatuation with the whole thing is that watching us go through things makes other people feel normal."
Interview's Stephen Mooallem then asks the 29-year-old Federline if people watching his life almost as entertainment has hurt him and Spears.
"That'd be a yes-and-no answer," he replied. "You can't just have everything you want, you know?
"I guess that's the way I have to look at it. I'm not completely willing to give in to everything that's been done. But that's the way that things have happened and I'm not that completely upset by it either.
"I've gained a whole lot of stuff I've wanted to do out of it, too. But I don't think it hurt the relationship, and I don't regret letting people in.
"It's flattering that people want to be in," he continued. "So has it hurt? You know, to an extent it has. I mean, you want to have your private life. But I've found a way to do that and deal with everything at the same time. I've had to create my privacy."
After testifying at a child custody hearing on Monday, Federline retained sole legal and physical custody of his two sons with Spears, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.
Federline, who appears on the CW soap "One Tree Hill" tonight, recently opened up to Details magazine about life with Sean Preston and Jayden James.
"My TVs are pretty much G-rated right now," he tells Details. Anything from SpongeBob to Finding Nemo, and you know, I'm still trying to decide which one I like more."
