NEW YORK — Kiefer Sutherland may have mistaken Brooke Shields for the President.
According to New York's Daily News, the "24" star got into a heated exchange early Tuesday with fashion designer Jack McCollough at a New York City after-party for the Met Costume Institute Gala. Witnesses tell the paper that the incident began when the Proenza Schouler women's wear designer accidentally bumped into Shields. Sutherland was speaking with the actress at the time and demanded an apology. After the pair exchange unpleasantries, Sutherland allegedly headbutted McCollough, who suffered some minor facial cuts.
The incident is currently under investigation, with McCollough telling authorities that the 42-year-old Sutherland "was drunk and obnoxious and wouldn't back down or be logical." Prior to the headbutt, he said the actor "pulled this stupid wrestling move like a teenager."
The 43-year-old Shields is a friend of McCollough's and admitted that Sutherland may have been out of line.
"Nothing happened to her ... Jack did nothing inappropriate. It's not clear what caused Kiefer to do what he did," her rep told TMZ.com.
Both Sutherland and Shields are expected to give their sides of the story to police on Wednesday.
Sutherland has two prior DUI offenses, the second of which resulted in him famously serving 48 days in jail last year.
"When Kiefer gets drunk he gets belligerent," a source told the Daily News. "If he was drunk, none of this surprises me. He sticks to water in public but in private he goes right to the booze and gets angry and violent. When he's drunk, people are afraid to be around him."
