NEW YORK — For once, Jack Bauer appears willing to surrender.
"24" star Kiefer Sutherland is expected to turn himself into authorities Thursday for questioning after he allegedly headbutted fashion designer Jack McCollough early Tuesday in New York City.
Sutherland and McCollough got into a heated exchange at a New York City after-party for the Met Costume Institute Gala. Witnesses told New York's Daily News that the incident began when the Proenza Schouler women's wear designer accidentally bumped into Brooke Shields. Sutherland was speaking with the actress at the time and demanded an apology. After the pair exchange unpleasantries, Sutherland allegedly headbutted McCollough, who suffered some minor facial cuts.
McCollough told authorities that the 42-year-old Sutherland "was drunk and obnoxious and wouldn't back down or be logical." Prior to the headbutt, he said the actor "pulled this stupid wrestling move like a teenager."
The 43-year-old Shields is a friend of McCollough's and admitted that Sutherland may have been out of line.
"Nothing happened to her ... Jack did nothing inappropriate. It's not clear what caused Kiefer to do what he did," her rep told TMZ.com.
Sutherland could face a misdemeanor assault charge, which could be felt all the way back to Los Angeles. The actor has two prior DUI offenses, the second of which resulted in him famously serving 48 days in jail last year. Any legal issues would be a violation of his current five-year probation term and would likely involve more jail time.
"Our office intends to contact the NYPD and New York prosecutors to review the incident and determine whether Mr. Sutherland violated probation," L.A. City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan told People.
