NEW YORK — Lauren Conrad has done it again.
The former Hills star has topped the New York Times best-seller list with Sweet Little Lies, the second installment of her wildly successful book series for publisher HarperCollins.
"It's so gratifying for my second book to be so successful and it was so fun to write! The characters were already developed so I really enjoyed the process so much more this time around," the 24-year-old Conrad told People about the latest installent, which hit shelves earlier this month. "All the characters have become like my friends now."
Sweet Little Lies follows Conrad's hugely successful debut novel, L.A. Candy, which topped the best-seller list last summer. The series is based loosely on Conrad's own life, telling the story of a young girl named Jane Roberts who moves to L.A. and unexpectedly becomes the star of a reality television show.
In September, Temple Hill Entertainment acquired the screen rights to L.A. Candy.
Conrad has braved the East Coast storms to promote Sweet Little Lies in an atmosphere she likened to the Steve Martin and John Candy film Planes, Traines & Automobiles.
"I'm just so thankful to my fans. Everyone is coming out to see me in the snow," she told the mag. "I just can't believe it."
