HENDERSON, Nev. — Pro golfer Erica Blasberg's death has been ruled a suicide, officials revealed Tuesday.
The Clark County coroner's office said the LPGA Tour player died of suicide due to asphyxia, coupled with the presence of toxic levels of prescription medication in her system, including prescription headache, cough, pain and anti-anxiety medications, according to the Associated Press.
The 25-year-old Blasberg was found dead on May 9 at her home in Henderson, Nev. Her death was first revealed by fellow LPGA player Maria Hjorth on Twitter.
"So saddened to hear that Erica Blasberg passed away yesterday," wrote Hjorth. "She was such a good player and a great person. She will be missed!"
The Southern California native played two weeks before her death at the Tres Marias Championship, where she finished 44th in her only start on the LPGA Tour this year.
Blasberg joined the LPGA Tour in 2005 after playing two seasons at the University of Arizona, where she won NCAA Freshman of the Year.
