LONDON — Madonna and Guy Ritchie are one step closer to officially being over and done with.
On Friday, the ex-couple was granted a preliminary decree of divorce in the High Court of London, according to The Associated Press.
Known in the U.K. as a "quickie divorce," the pair's split will become official if there are no disputes in the next six weeks and one day.
According to papers released by the court, Madonna petitioned for divorce on the basis of Ritchie's "unreasonable behavior," but did not elaborate, AP says.
Neither Madonna, 50, or Ritchie, 40, appeared at today's brief court session.
The pop star and the director announced their split last month. They were married on Dec. 22, 2000 at Skibo Castle in the Scottish Highlands.
Madonna and Ritchie have two children, biological son Rocco, 8, and David, 2, whom they adopted in 2006. The pop star also has a daughter, Lourdes, 12, from a previous relationship with personal trainer Carlos Leon.
