HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — James Gammon, who starred as loveable manager Lou Brown in the popular Major League movies, has died. He was 70.
The character actor passed away Friday from cancer of the adrenal glands and the liver, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Gammon was the manager of the hapless Cleveland Indians in the 1989 comedy Major League and its sequel five years later. Other notable film roles included Urban Cowboy, Silverado and Cold Mountain.
On television, Gammon starred on Nash Bridges from 1996 to 2001, playing the part of Don Johnson's father. He also had recurring roles on such shows as The Waltons.
Gammon was also a Los Angeles theater mainstay. He co-founded the MET Theater and garnered numerous Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards for acting and directing.
Gammon is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy, and their two daughters.
