HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Maura Tierney is leaving NBC's upcoming drama series "Parenthood" in order to continue her treatments for breast cancer.
"Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive," Tierney's rep tells The Hollywood Reporter. "She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support."
The 44-year-old actress first revealed her medical condition in July after NBC released a statement saying that production on the series would be halted until November. With Tierney's treatments now expected to continue longer, the network has been forced to recast her role.
Tierney was scheduled to play a financially-strapped single mom on "Parenthood," a take-off of the 1989 film of the same name. The star-studded cast also includes Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Dax Shepard, Bonnie Bedlia, Monica Pottter and Erika Christensen.
"While we are saddened that Maura Tierney won't be able to continue in her current role in 'Parenthood,' our main concern is for her quick and full recovery," said a spokesman for the network. "Our thoughts and best wishes are with her."
