HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have split after more than a year of dating.
The Australian actor's rep confirmed the breakup Wednesday, but did not provide any further details.
Cyrus, 17, and Hemsworth, 20, met last year while filming The Last Song in Tybee Island, Ga. Naturally, the couple's first kiss happened as they shot the film, which hit theaters in April.
"We turned up on set the very first day and originally it was just a scene where we were running through the water and splashing and having fun," Hemsworth previously told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show. "And halfway through the scene, the director, Julie Anne [Robinson], she yelled 'Kiss!' And we got thrown into a kiss on the boat."
He added: "It was good, 'cause, you know, [you] get the first one out of the way, and it was fine."
Back in June, Cyrus took to her website when breakup rumors began to spread, telling fans the couple was still "so happy" together. Months earlier, she had gushed about the first time she met Hemsworth.
"I was actually going through a tough time," she recalled on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. "I was like, guys just need to be out of my life for a little while. [I thought] 'I just need to alone.' But I met him, and he opened the door for me, and I was like, I have been in L.A. for three years and I don't think any guy has actually opened the door for me.
"It wasn't that he wanted the job. That's just who he is. I was like, 'Wow, that is super-impressive.' I actually turned to the director and said, 'He's got the job.' He's hot and he opened the door. Excellent."
