HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Miley Cyrus is chalking up her April Vanity Fair controversy to youth.
Appearing on Tuesday's "Good Morning America," the 15-year-old Disney star confessed her age played a part in the controversial photos, in which she appeared to be topless.
"I think I was just in a stage where I was just trying to get things done, and maybe look for an older audience," Cyrus explained. "I was working with a big magazine just trying to go with what they were saying."
While she has since admitted to being embarrassed by the incident, the "Hanna Montana" star told ABC's Robin Roberts that she hopes people realize she's human.
"People need to remember that I am young and that I do have feelings, and I'll do the same thing for them," she said. "Anyone who was 15 years old can't say they haven't made a mistake. So I think it's just normal."
Finding a positive out of the experience, Cyrus said it brought her that much closer to her fans.
"It kind of really made me remember how much my fans really do support me, 'cause they all stuck by me," she said.
Cyrus, whose new album "Breakout" was released Tuesday, also confessed that her sudden fame has probably changed her life forever.
"It's weird, because I feel very normal and feel like a normal teenager, but then when I go out and about, I'm like, 'OK, I'm not in this normal life,' " she explained.
"I don't know if I could go back to a normal life," Cyrus added. "I think it would be too hard."
