HOLLYWOOD, Calif - In this day and age, finding a positive young role model in Hollywood isn't so easy. But thankfully, the world still has Miley Cyrus to lean on.
The 15-year-old "Hannah Montana" star sat down with Oprah Winfrey on her talk show Thursday, dishing out everything from her own role models to the clothes that she chooses to wear.
Winfrey's audience was filled with adoring fans, who received some insight into how the young pop singer and actress has remained grounded during her sudden rise to fame. Cyrus credited her family, particularly her dad, Billy Ray, for helping her keep things in perspective.
"My dad — he's a big influence, not only just because of the music, but growing up around him," she said. "I've never seen him treat anyone less than with respect and love for everyone, down to the fans that wait until 3 in the morning until his bus pulls out at 5."
The young star also mentioned church as a source of her strength. When asked to name her favorite Bible verse, she quoted Ephesians 6:10-11 from memory: "Finally, my brother, come close to the Lord for if you put on the full armor of God you can stand against the walls of a devil."
With so many young girls looking up to her, Cyrus revealed that she has someone outside of her family and church that she looks up to as well — fellow actress and singer Hilary Duff.
"Because she's someone that I got to watch, and I'm like, 'Hey, she's a normal girl,' " Cyrus explained.
The Disney Channel star has several friends that she leans on too, most notably her "Hannah Montana" co-star, Emily Osment, as well as Ashley Tisdale.
"I miss her so much," Cyrus said of Tisdale, who is currently on tour. "Every time that I'm home, when I want to go see her, she's working too. So I miss her a lot."
Recognizing that so many young girls look up to her, Cyrus revealed to Oprah that she likes to dress the part of a good role model.
I like to look kind of like what girls would want to look up to, and their moms and dads will say, 'Hey, that's cool. That's different.' "
"I look way young," she said, "and that's the way that's more comfortable for me."
