BALTIMORE — Prosecutors have dropped misdemeanor assault charges against R&B star Mario, who was accused of attacking his mother at their Baltimore home last month.
The case was dismissed after the singer's mother, Shawntia Hardaway, changed her story Wednesday. Hardaway said she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when she called police and that her son never touched her.
"I'm glad to be finally vindicated," Mario told Us Weekly. "I want to thank everyone who believed in me. I will continue to love and support my mother."
The former Dancing With the Stars contestant, whose full name is Mario Barrett, was charged with second-degree assault after Hardaway claimed he damaged property in their home and pushed her around on Oct. 1.
Mario has publicly stated that his mother suffers from a drug addiction.
