MONTREAL — Actress Natasha Richardson was critically injured Monday in a skiing accident in Canada, her relatives confirmed to the media.
According to the Evening Standard, the 45-year-old star suffered a "traumatic brain injury" while at the ski resort of Mont Tremblant, located about 75 miles from Montreal.
"I have heard this morning from a family representative about Natasha's accident and am very saddened," Richardson's uncle, Corin Redgrave, told the newspaper.
People magazine reports that Richardson was initially taken to a hospital near the luxury Quebec resort and later transferred to a hospital in Montreal.
Richardson's husband, actor Liam Neeson, 56, was in Toronto filming the movie "Chloe" when news of the accident reached him. A rep for the film told CTV that he immediately rushed to his wife's side.
"Liam Neeson left the Toronto set immediately to fly to Montreal upon news of his wife's accident," said the rep in a statement. "We do not have any details at this time but we hope for the best and our thoughts and prayers are with Natasha and Liam and their family."
Richardson and Neeson married in 1994 and have two sons, Micheal, 13, and Daniel, 12.
Richardson, who won a Tony award in 1998 for her performance in the musical "Cabaret," is the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave and late producer Tony Richardson.
