HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Nick Lachey says the outcry over his ex-wife Jessica Simpson’s curvy figure has left him completely perplexed.
“I can’t believe it’s this big of a story and people are making such a huge deal about it,” Lachey tells Extra. “I’m never ceased to be amazed by people’s reaction to things.”
Lachey, who was married to Simpson from 2002-05, says his thoughts are with his former wife.
“I hope she’s happy, whatever size she comes in,” he tells Extra. “I wish her nothing but the best.”
Lachey is the latest in a long line of celebs who have risen to Simpson’s defense, ever since photos of her performing live last weekend sent bloggers on a rampage about her weight gain. Simpson’s sister, Ashlee, was the first to respond in a blog message posted on her Web site.
“I am completely disgusted by the headlines concerning my sister’s weight,” wrote 24-year-old Ashlee on Monday. “A week after the inauguration and with such a feeling of hope in the air for our country, I find it completely embarrassing and belittling to all women to read about a woman’s weight or figure.”
Kim Kardashian, Paula Abdul and Heidi Klum are some of the others stars who have chimed in.
“I love curves. Being super skinny just isn’t attractive to me,” Kardashian told People earlier this week. “She’s fabulous, she’s a really sweet girl, and I admire her for putting up with it.”
