LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Paris Hilton has been charged with felony cocaine possession stemming from her weekend arrest in Las Vegas.
New details about the arrest have emerged in the police report from the incident, which said a "strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle" led to the traffic stop. Hilton was busted around 11:30 p.m. Friday night after police stopped a black Cadillac Escalade driven by her boyfriend, Las Vegas nightclub mogul Cy Waits.
During questioning, Hilton said she was "extremely embarrassed" by the large crowd watching, so she asked to use the bathroom at the nearby Wynn Hotel. Once inside, she was taken to a security holding room, where she soon asked for her purse.
"Hilton said she needed to put some lip balm on, and I handed her the purse from the table," the arresting officer wrote. "As she began to open it, I saw a small bindle of what I believed to be cocaine in clear plastic baggy begin to fall from the purse and into my hand."
Police say the purse contained .8 grams of cocaine, Zig Zag wrappers commonly used for marijuana, and a broken tablet of the prescription asthma medication Albuterol.
Hilton told police the purse belonged to a friend, although she did admit that several items found inside were hers, including $1,300 in cash, credit cards and the Albuterol. When asked about the cocaine, Hilton said "she had not seen it but now thought it was gum."
This is the third drug-related incident involving Hilton this summer. Last month, she was taken into custody after police suspected she was smoking marijuana at the World Cup quarterfinal match between Brazil and the Netherlands. The case against her was later dropped.
Weeks later, Hilton was briefly detained in Corsica after local authorities reportedly found about a gram of marijuana in her purse. She later denied the allegation and was never charged.
The incidents come three years after Hilton famously went to jail for violating probation in an alcohol-related driving case.
