HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Paula Abdul provided listeners with a stroll down memory lane Friday morning as she debuted her new song on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show.
Abdul, who hasn't released a single since 1993, debuted her new track, "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow, on what turned out to be an "American Idol" lovefest. In addition to "Idol" host Seacrest, Randy Jackson accompanied the former Laker Girl for the debut, with Simon Cowell calling in from England.
"It just seemed the right time," Abdul said of her return to making music. "The timing just came together."
Seacrest called it "a historical moment," while Jackson agreed saying, "This is a big moment, dude."
Before unveiling the bouncy new track, Seacrest played some bits of Abdul's old songs from the '80s and '90s.
"These used to make me melt," he said, explaining that he heard them when he was with his girlfriend in high school.
The new single will appear on Jackson's album "Music Club Volume 1," a compilation album also featuring Mariah Carey, Joss Stone, Travis Tritt, and Richie Sambora, along with "Idol" contestants Katharine McPhee and Elliot Yamin. The album is scheduled to drop on January 29.
Abdul, who released her debut album "Forever Your Girl" in 1988, is scheduled to perform her new single at the Super Bowl pre-show.
