HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Perez Hilton's attorney is threatening legal action after the celebrity blogger was allegedly assaulted by a tour manager for the Black Eyed Peas following Sunday night's MuchMusic Video Awards in Canada.
"Perez will take legal action against anyone who chooses to resort to physical violence as a means to respond to criticism they do not like," Hilton's attorney, Bryan J. Freedman, said in a statement Tuesday to Access Hollywood.
The evening began with Fergie exchanging words with the blogger, but tempers escalated further when will.i.am also criticized Hilton's negative comments about the band while they attended an afterparty at the Toronto nightclub Cobra. The openly-gay Hilton responded by calling will.i.am a "faggot" inside the club.
"He was like 'You need to respect me.' He was in my face. He was obviously trying to intimidate me and scare me," Hilton told The Associated Press. "I was like 'I don't need to respect you. I don't respect you and I did say this, and I knew that it would be the worst thing I could possibly say to him because he was acting the way he was. I said 'You know what, I don't respect you and you're gay and stop being such a faggot.' "
Hilton claims the band's tour manager, Polo Molina, later punched him just below his eye as he left the club. He originally accused will.i.am of throwing the punch, even posting a message on Tweeter shortly after the incident at 4 a.m.
"I was assaulted by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards," Hilton Tweeted. "I am bleeding. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke."
Will.i.am later posted a video blog wondering why Hilton would hit Twitter after the incident, while also denying having any involvement in the physical altercation.
"Sounds like somebody wants mad attention and is not really concerned with his health," the musician said of the post-fight Tweet, before adding, "I didn't hit you."
Molina, who turned himself into authorities and was charged with assault, is due in court on Aug. 5.
