NEW YORK — Prince has revealed the first dates for his forthcoming "Welcome 2 America" tour, which he first teased fans about two weeks ago at a press conference held at New York City’s famed Apollo Theater.
The 52-year-old R&B star will kick off the tour with a three-night run at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J., beginning on Dec. 14.
He also announced that he’ll perform at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Dec. 18 and 29. The time between shows would seem to indicate that more performances could be added based on demand.
Tickets for the shows go on sale on this Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. on LiveNation.com.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has promised a different experience every night, with various guest performers including Maceo Parker, Janelle Monae, Mint Condition, Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Sinbad, Lalah Hathaway, Sheila E. and Graham Central Station.
It was also revealed that the "Let’s Go Crazy" singer will play a custom-built solid-gold Fender Stratocaster. At the end of the run, the guitar will be auctioned off to benefit the Harlem Children’s Zone.
The dates mark the first time Prince has performed on the East Coast since 2004.
