HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Rodney "Darkchild" Jenkins says he has big plans for Britney Spears.
The Grammy-winning music producer has hooked back up with Spears for the first time in seven years, joining the pop star in the studio as she works on her as-yet-untitled sixth studio album. Jenkins says he's "trying to reinvent" Spears, describing her new material as "very dancey, really up-tempo, aggressive, catchy, and hook friendly."
"I'm trying some new things." he told Rap-Up TV last week at Interscope Geffen A&M's Creme of the Crop dinner in Los Angeles. "I've always worked with Britney and I love working with her."
Jenkins says he will produce two tracks on the new album, which he says should be released in early 2009. The New Jersey native last worked with the 26-year-old singer on her self-titled "Britney" album, where he masterminded the remix for the track "Overprotected." He also produced the single "I Love Rock 'n' Roll."
While many have questioned Spears' devotion to her craft in the past, Jenkins says she has always been "professional" when the two have worked together. He went as far as to cite a recent studio session in which Spears flew through a recording.
"She walked in at 8:30 and was out by 10:30," Jenkins says.
With Spears seemingly back on the right path again following a rocky start to the new year, Jenkins says the "Gimme More" singer will soon be back on top.
"It's about to be her time again," he says.
