LOS ANGELES — The woman the National Enquirer claims is having an affair with Tiger Woods is speaking out for the first time, accusing the tabloid of failing to get its facts straight.
"I did not have an affair with Tiger Woods," New York socialite Rachel Uchitel tells Us Weekly. "I met him twice and have not heard from him since."
The latest issue of the tabloid claims Uchitel has had trysts with Woods in New York, Las Vegas and Australia, where he recently won the Australian Masters.
"I understand that there's rumors all over because everybody's talking about it," Uchitel explained to the mag. "But I'm telling you, people say rumors about me all the time. People will say a ton of things about me. I did not have an affair with Tiger Woods. The things that were said from the source in the Enquirer are in fact, not true."
Uchitel said she offered to take a polygraph test for the Enquirer, but "they refused it."
"They told me it was too late and the story was running anyway," she said.
The affair rumor picked up steam after Woods was injured in a car accident early Friday just outside of his home in Orlando, Fla. The golfer struck a fire hydrant and a tree around 2:25 a.m. His wife, model Elin Nordegren, told investigators that she was inside the couple's home when she heard the accident. She then came outside and "used a golf club to smash out the back window" to free her husband.
Woods, 33, was taken to Health Central Hospital, where he was treated for facial lacerations and released.
According to the Associated Press, his agent contacted authorities on Saturday as they were en route to his home and asked them to wait another day before speaking with him. It was the second straight day that Woods avoided authorities, but a spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol told AP that he is not obligated to speak to them since the matter being investigated is a traffic accident.
In February, Woods and Nordegren welcomed their second child together, son Charlie Axel Woods. The couple, who married in 2004, is also proud parents to daughter Sam Alexis, 2.
