SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Randy Quaid and his wife, Evi, were sent to jail on Monday for missing multiple hearings in a felony case that alleges they skipped out on an expensive hotel bill.
The eccentric couple were ordered held on $100,000 bail and told to return for a court hearing Wednesday, Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter said in an e-mail to the Associated Press.
The 59-year-old actor and his wife were arrested last September after they allegedly skipping out on a $10,000 hotel bill they rang up during a summer stay at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara. The couple has since skipped several Santa Barbara courtroom appearances to face felony charges of burglary, defrauding an innkeeper and conspiracy.
While the bill has since been paid, prosecutors contend a crime was still committed.
Quaid is perhaps best known for his roles in National Lampoon's Vacation movies, in which he starred as Cousin Eddie.
