PHOENIX, Ariz. — Troubled rapper DMX is back in jail after he allegedly violating his probation by using drugs, including cocaine.
The 39-year-old star, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was arrested Tuesday night in Arizona after serving about half of an 18-month probation, according to The Arizona Republic.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said this is now the fifth time deputies have arrested DMX, including an August 2007 raid on his home that turned up 12 neglected dogs, three buried dogs, drugs and a cache of weapons. That arrest resulted in a 90-day sentence for felony convictions including cruelty to animals, theft and two drug counts. He was released from jail in May.
Arpaio said he wants to see Simmons sentenced to some "big time" following his latest legal setback.
"The irony is that the dogs he's abused have done more time than this guy has done with so many different violations, including assaulting one of my officers," said Arpaio, who placed some of the previously seized dogs into a safe shelter he established at the town's old jail. "That's not fair."
"I may double bunk him, but I don't double bunk the dogs," added the sheriff. "They've got their single cell."
