PHOENIX, Ariz. — Rap star DMX was sentenced to 90 days in jail on Friday as a result of three felony drug counts, The Associated Press reports.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was also placed on at least 18 months' supervised probation by a Maricopa County Superior Court Commissioner.
On Dec. 30, DMX pleaded guilty to three felony counts — theft, possession or use of marijuana, and possession or use of narcotic drugs. He also pleaded to guilty to a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.
The 38-year-old rapper was arrested on Dec. 9 in Miami after a bench warrant was issued when he failed to appear in court for a hearing.
DMX, who rose to fame in the late '90s, is the only artist to ever have five consecutive albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard charts.
