HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — It looks like the Golden Globes are getting used to having someone in charge.
Ricky Gervais will return as host for the second consecutive year when the 68th annual Golden Globes air on NBC in 2011, the network announced Wednesday.
Earlier this year, the British funnyman became the show's first host since 1995.
"I can't believe they invited me back after awful things I said," said Gervais. "Let's see how far I can go this time."
"We are thrilled to have Ricky back as the host of the Golden Globe Awards," added Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Philip Berk. "His combination of wit, irreverence, and spontaneity makes him the ideal host. He was fantastic last year, and he'll be even better the second time around."
The Golden Globe and Emmy-winning Gervais is best known as the co-creator and star of the BBC version of The Office, which debuted in 2001. He most recently co-starred with Jennifer Garner in The Invention of Lying (which he also co-directed).
Next year's Golden Globes will air live on NBC on Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
