HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Shania Twain has a surprise awaiting her fans when she turns 44 on Aug. 28.
In her first public comments since November's Country Music Awards, Twain promises her fans a "small gift" in a video posted on her official Web site from her home in Switzerland.
"Hi everyone, Shania here," Twain says in the video, which also includes two of her dogs. "First to start off... thank you for all the beautiful birthday wishes for [8-year-old son] Eja's birthday."
"Secondly, if you haven't already seen on my Web site, for August 28 on my birthday, I will be giving you a small gift of thanks for all of your support over the last year ... You've been really wonderful, thank you so much."
Twain has kept a low profile ever since she and her husband, producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, split in May 2008. The breakup followed Lange having an affair with Twain's close friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud, a longtime secretary and manager of the couple's chateau in Switzerland.
One month after the split, Twain posted an open letter on her Web site, in which she told her fans: "Your overwhelming support reminds me to smile, no matter how deep the pain and to always be grateful for all the beautiful blessings in my life."
Twain has a stint as a guest judge on "American Idol" coming up later this month. The singer will be on hand for the Fox reality show's auditions in Chicago on Aug. 30 and 31.
