LOS ANGELES — Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson testified Thursday against the man accused of stalking her.
Robert O'Ryan, 36, of Yullee, Fla. was arrested in March 2009 when he allegedly tried to jump a fence and sneak onto the set of Dancing With the Stars, in which Johnson was a contestant at the time. A search of his vehicle later turned up a loaded shotgun and handgun, as well as duct tape and love letters.
"To see that somebody had that much obsession, it really made me scared," testified Johnson, according to the Associated Press.
The Olympian, whose testimony lasted 23 minutes, was particularly emotional when a prosecutor showed her a knife that police found in O'Ryan's car.
Johnson also said she almost quit DWTS over fears for her safety. She later went on to become the show's youngest winner.
O'Ryan has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to felony stalking and burglary charges.
Johnson won a gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
