HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Sarah Silverman and Norm MacDonald are among the comedians hoping to resurrect the magic once found on the longtime television favorite "Match Game."
The show, in which two contestants try to match missing words in a given phrase with a panel of six celebrity guests, first hit the airwaves in 1962. TBS is currently working on an updated version of the game show, which was shot this week in Los Angeles as Andrew Daly served as the host.
Joining Silverman and MacDonald on the new celebrity panel are Bob Einstein (better known as Super Dave Osborne), Scott Thompson ("Kids in the Hall"), Rashida Jones ("The Office") and Niecy Nash ("Reno 911!").
Gene Rayburn hosted the show during its heyday in the 1970s, a period remembered for its sometimes rowdy humor as contestants tried to match their answers with the celeb guests.
Some of the notable stars to appear on the show over the years include Charles Nelson Reilly, Vicki Lawrence, McLean Stevenson, Betty White, Orson Bean, Fannie Flagg, Nipsey Russell, Brett Somers and former "Family Feud" host Richard Dawson.
The most recent version of "Match Game" went off the air in 1999.
