HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Singer Amy Winehouse, who has been seen sporting bumps on her face, has been diagnosed with a contagious skin disease.
"Amy has been diagnosed with impetigo, which she's been told can be highly contagious," her rep says. "Because of that, she's been put on antibiotics and may have to stay home alone for the next few days."
According to the Mayo Clinic, impetigo is a common skin infection among children. The site reports that "although it commonly occurs when bacteria enter the skin through cuts or insect bites, it can also develop in skin that's perfectly healthy.
"Impetigo is seldom serious, and minor infections may clear on their own in two to three weeks."
The British retro soul singer won five Grammys out of her six nominations, including record of the year, song of the year and best new artist, at last month's 50th annual awards ceremony.
