LONDON — Singer Amy Winehouse was released from a London police station Saturday after being held overnight for questioning related to an alleged assault.
The 24-year-old Winehouse went to meet with London police officials on Friday morning, where she was questioned over an incident earlier in the week in which a 38-year-old man claimed he was assaulted by a woman fitting the British singer's description.
"A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault after attending a central London police station by appointment," a Scotland Yard spokesman told BBC News on Friday.
Winehouse was not charged, but the incident will remain on record and could count against her if she is ever facing similar charges in the future, the Associated Press reports.
Winehouse's arrest led to her missing her husband Blake Fielder-Civil's court appearance Friday morning. Fielder-Civil is currently facing charges of assault and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
At Friday's hearing, a judge ruled that Fielder-Civil will stand trial on June 2 and that he will remain jailed until that time.
Fielder-Civil, 25, who married Winehouse last May and has been behind bars since November, was reprimanded at the hearing for smiling and attempting to communicate with a woman who was sitting in the public gallery, the BBC said.
