HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Shania Twain and her husband of 14 years have split, according to People magazine.
The 42-year-old country singer and her husband, Robert “Mutt” Lange, were married in 1993. They have one child together, 6-year-old son, Eja D’Angelo.
“Shania Twain and her husband, music producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange, are separating after 14 years of marriage,” spokesman Jason Owen told People in a statement. “This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time.”
In 2000, the couple was rumored to be on the verge of a break-up, but they remained together. Two years later, Twain admitted that she and her husband were “very different” in a interview with People.
“Our love has always been based on friendship and compatibility,” she said.
The Canadian-native’s last original studio release was “Up!” in 2002, an album in which the 59-year-old Lange was a major contributor. The release was a follow up to Twain’s “Come on Over,” which became the highest-selling female solo artist album in history.
The singer’s last new material came in the form of three new tracks on her 2004 “Greatest Hits” album.
She has previously stated that she intends to release a new album sometime this year.
