HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Sylvester Stallone and his pumped-up pals in The Expendables remained No. 1 for a second straight weekend with ticket sales of $16.5 million, according to studio estimates released Sunday.
The action film claimed the top spot over the Twilight spoof Vampires Suck, which premiered in second with $12.2 million. The total was just enough to outpace Julia Roberts' Eat Pray Love, which finished third at $12 million.
Coming in fourth was the Bow Wow comedy Lottery Ticket, which premiered with $11.1 million. The Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg buddy-cop comedy The Other Guys slipped to fifth place at $10.1 million.
Jennifer Aniston's The Switch was a notable bomb over the weekend, opening in eighth place with $8.1 million.
