HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — HBO's World War II series The Pacific received a whopping 24 nominations, while Fox's breakout hit Glee scored 19 nods to lead the field of contenders for the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards, organizers announced Thursday.
Glee was nominated for best television comedy series, where it will compete against Curb Your Enthusiasm, Modern Family, The Office, Nurse Jackie and reigning champ 30 Rock.
The musical comedy about a group of high school misfits also picked up best acting nods for its stars - Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele and Jane Lynch. Guest performers Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth also scored nominations.
Two-time Emmy champion Mad Men also had a big day, claiming 17 nominations. The AMC series will defend its best drama series crown against Lost, True Blood, Dexter, Breaking Bad and The Good Wife.
This year's Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, will take place on Aug. 29 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
