HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy Sullivan, better known as "The Rev," was found dead Monday at his Southern California home. He was 28.
Sullivan was discovered unresponsive at his Huntington Beach house at 11 a.m. He appears to have died of natural causes, authorities said.
"The cause of death is still under investigation," Deputy Coroner Mitchell Sigal told the Los Angeles Times. "An autopsy has been scheduled."
Founded in 1999, Avenged Sevenfold was named best new artist at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. The feat came on the heels of their major label debut album, City of Evil.
The rockers followed with a self-titled release in 2007, which featured the singles "Almost Easy" and "Scream."
A7X recently announced plans to record a third studio album after co-headlining national tours with Buckcherry in 2008 and 2009.
"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan," the band said in a statement on their official Web site. "Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time. Jimmy you are forever in our hearts. We love you."
