HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Tiger Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren have apologized to the parents whose children attend the same daycare facility as their 2-year-old daughter Sam.
In a letter obtained by Florida television station WFTV, the couple expresses sorrow over the media attention brought on by the golfer's admitted infidelity.
"We would like to share our appreciation for your support over the past several months and offer our personal apology for any inconvenience you are experiencing due to the increased media scrutiny surrounding our children. We truly understand how frustrating it can be," reads the letter addressed to fellow parents at Premier Academy. "We hope the paparazzi will find something better to do with their time in the near future. In the meantime, it is our goal to keep life as normal as possible for our children. We are sure that as parents you can appreciate that. For Sam, that normalcy means attending the school that she enjoys so much."
Woods apologized on Friday for his "irresponsible and selfish behavior" as he broke his long silence. He has been under the microscope ever since he crashed his SUV outside the couple's Windermere, Fla. home on Nov. 27. The accident came shortly after the National Enquirer published a story alleging that he was having an affair with Rachel Uchitel, a New York nightclub manager. After the first affair allegation, several more women stepped forward claiming to have engaged in sexual trysts with Woods, including former VH1 Tool Academy contestant Jaimee Grubbs and porn star Holly Sampson.
"I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did is not acceptable – and I am the only person to blame," Woods said at last week's news conference. "I stopped living by the core values that I was taught to believe in. I knew my actions were wrong, but I convinced myself that normal rules didn't apply. Instead, I thought only about myself. I ran straight through the boundaries a married couple should live by. I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to. I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me."
