ORLANDO, Fla. — Tiger Woods will not face criminal charges over his now infamous single-car accident last week.
On Tuesday, the Florida Highway Patrol said the PGA star would only be cited for careless driving after crashing his 2009 Cadillac Escalade into a neighbor's tree around 2:25 a.m. on Friday.
Woods faces a $164 fine and four points against his driver's license, authorities said.
"The investigation has determined that Mr. Woods is at fault in the crash," the FHP said at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. "This afternoon, FHP issued a uniform traffic citation for careless driving to Mr. Woods."
The FHP also said that Woods had satisfied the requirements of Florida law by providing his driver license, registration and proof of insurance. Upon issuing the citation, the FHP said it had completed its investigation.
The FHP also said that there isn't any testimony or other evidence to support additional charges of any kind.
"After reviewing the evidence available to us, and in consultation with the Office of State Attorney Lawson Lamar, it was determined that there was insufficient evidence available to issue a subpoena for additional medical information that may exist in this case," they said. "We cannot speak to the existence of any blood evidence, nor are there claims of domestic violence by any individual."
On Monday, TMZ reported that authorities were seeking a search warrant for the golfer's medical records in order to investigate the treatment that he received following the accident just outside of his Florida home. The Web site said police were interested in finding out if the injuries Woods sustained resembled those from an auto accident or a domestic dispute with his wife, model Elin Nordegren.
The accident came two days after the National Enquirer published a story alleging that Woods has been having an affair with a New York woman named Rachel Uchitel. The tabloid claims Woods and Uchitel have had trysts in New York, Las Vegas and Australia, where he recently won the Australian Masters.
The 33-year-old Woods posted a statement on his Web site Sunday in which he blamed himself for the accident, but said he would not be addressing any of the swirling rumors.
"This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way," he said. "Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible. The only person responsible for the accident is me. My wife, Elin, acted courageously when she saw I was hurt and in trouble. She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false."
